Jenga 4.99

As a way to jump start back into school mode after spring break, we were given two one-hour exercises to experiment combining our Jenga 4.0 design with two other teams. This gave us the chance to explore an eight story scheme with varying ideas.

We first met with team Jive. With certain key elements in their design such as linear planes and balance, I felt there were many options as far as the design. Their architectural details definitely coordinated with our design. There was a strong sense of design that seemed to click. When comparing the the two design languages of each unit, I could see how the two would mesh together. The C-shaped elements in Jive's design and our vertical beams have a similar design language. Both seem to encompass our units to create an experience within. The order, balance, and verticality appear in both designs allows many options for Jenga 5.0.

After meeting with team Jive, we were then assigned to meet with team Caravaggio. It seemed much more difficult to find connections with the two designs. Our design is based off of symmetricality, order, and balnce. Caravaggio's design is more irregular balance. There are different path of exploration whereas our design, there is a clear path of direction. We seemed to find some connections such as the core being important and paths of direction. I did not feel as confident with this design approach as I did with team Jive. It seemed as though we were forcing the two designs to come together and it was not speaking to one another. After much discussion, we were able to sketch possible design ideas and write a concept statement.
